Thomas Neier, MSc
Since January 2025, Thomas Neier has been working as an economist in the Research Group "Climate, Environmental and Resource Economics" at the WIFO. His research focuses on environmental economics, climate change, inequality, and the ecological transformation. Methodologically, his expertise lies in spatial analyses and causal inference. He obtained his doctorate in social and economic sciences in 2025 from the Institute for Ecological Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. From 2020 to 2025, he served as a research associate and doctoral candidate at the same institute, where he was actively involved in both research and teaching, as well as presenting his work at international conferences and workshops. Thomas Neier completed master's degrees in Social-Ecological Economics and Policy and economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as Ecological Economics and Sustainability: Science, Practice and Policy.
