Jürgen Bierbaumer is Senior Economist at WIFO and has been working in the WIFO Research Group "Macroeconomics and European
Economic Policy" since 2011. His field of activity essentially comprises two main areas: On the one hand he is responsible
as the project manager for the calculation of the quarterly GDP Flash Estimates. In addition to sound theoretical and methodological
knowledge, this also requires ongoing observation and assessment of the recent economic environment, not only nationally but
also internationally. In addition, he deals with the topic of Beyond GDP, in which not only economic but also social and ecological
aspects play an important role in measuring a country's prosperity. On the other hand, he is an expert in the areas of private
consumption and trade. His most important tasks in this area include ongoing economic monitoring and analysis as well as applied
research projects on these topics. In his academic research, he focusses primarily on the phenomenon of business cycles, both
at the international, national, regional and company level. His studies of economics brought him to Australia (University
of Tasmania, Hobart; BEc) and Germany (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München; MA and dissertation). He is also a lecturer
at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and as an expert on national accounting member of numerous expert committees.
