2004 steigerte die österreichische Bauwirtschaft ihre Produktion um nur 1,1%. Die Ausweitung der Mittel für Infrastrukturinvestitionen
und die Zunahme der Wohnbaunachfrage im Gefolge der regen Zuwanderung sollten die Bauinvestitionen in den nächsten zwei Jahren
stimulieren (+2% p. a.).

There is a marked difference in the outlook for construction output in eastern and western Europe: after growing at an unspectacular
rate of 1 percent in 2002 and 1.9 percent in 2003, Eastern Europe gained 6.6 percent in 2004, compared with a subdued 1.9
percent in Western Europe. The rapid growth in Eastern Europe will continue into 2007 because of the high attractiveness for
foreign investors (reduced bureaucracy and favourable trading conditions with other Euro countries after entering the Monetary
Union).
Total European construction output within the Euroconstruct zone is expected to increase by 2.2 percent in 2005, before slowing
down slightly in 2006 and 2007 to respective rates of 1.5 and 1.7 percent. Output will be on the rise in all countries with
the exception of Germany, where a decline is probable for 2005 and 2006.
