Income Situation and Living Situation in Austria
WIFO Index und Interactive Map
Julia Bock-Schappelwein and Franz Sinabell published a WIFO index on living conditions in Austrian municipalities, which was visualised on the website of the daily "Der Standard" using an interactive map.
The index illustrates the living conditions on a small-scale level in the 2,122 residential municipalities in Austria quantitatively for 2017 and previous years. It was developed in 2019. The following data were used for constructing the index: purchasing power per inhabitant according to GfK, purchasing power per household according to GfK, employment data from Statistics Austria, the proportion of the population under 65 years of age, the proportion of the population over 15 years of age with education beyond compulsory schooling and the employment rate of 15 to 64 year olds. The higher the index value, the better are the living conditions in the municipality in a given year.
