Austria's Quality as a Business Location

Results of a Survey of Austrian Managers
Trust in public institutions as well as satisfaction with physical infrastructure is high overall, according to respondents. In light of the COVID-19 crisis, leaders in this country also showed greater confidence in the government's ability to respond to change and act in the interest of all citizens than the average of comparison countries.

However, Austria lags behind the average of a peer group of small open economies in the EU, which includes Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Finland, on numerous indicators. Austria scores comparatively weakly, for example, on ethical standards in politics, the teaching of innovation and creativity through the education system, the spatial mobility of the workforce, start-up financing, the comprehensibility of the tax system or gender equality in childcare and care for the elderly.

In the Executive Opinion Survey (EOS), the World Economic Forum asks business leaders worldwide about the quality of their business location. WIFO is the national partner for the survey in Austria. 130 executives took part in the last wave of the survey in 2021.
