Part-time Employment in Austria in 2024
WIFO Director Gabriel Felbermayr: "Around 170,000 part-time employees in Austria would like to increase their working hours by an average of twelve hours per week – this potential needs to be better utilised. Above all, this requires comprehensive, affordable childcare, the expansion of care services, and fair career opportunities and working conditions for part-time workers. Particularly for those below the marginal earnings threshold, we need to consider improving the incentives in the tax system."
"Part-time work is real work and deserves full respect", says President of the Vienna Chamber of Labour Renate Anderl. "Part-time employees have a variety of reasons for their working hours – care responsibilities, illness, second jobs, or a lack of full-time positions."
