In den Jahren 1989 bis 1993 wird sich die österreichische Wirtschaft günstiger entwickeln als in den achtziger Jahren. Das
reale Brutto-Inlandsprodukt nimmt voraussichtlich im Durchschnitt um 2¾% pro Jahr zu. Durch die erwartete Ausweitung der Beschäftigung
wird die Arbeislosenrate zurückgehen (auf 4,6% im Jahr 1993). Das WIFO rechnet mit einem mäßigen Anstieg der Inflationsrate.
Die Defizite der Leistungsbilanz und des Bundeshaushalts werden (in Prozent des BIP) im Prognosezeitraum sinken.

Medium term prospects appear more favourable than developments during most of the eighties. Real gross domestic product is
forecast to grow by 2¾ percent annual average. The resulting increase in employment will allow unemployment to decline to
a rate of 4.6 percent by 1993. Inflation may accelerate somewhat. The deficits on current account and in the federal budget
are likely to be reduced as a percent of GDP over the forecasting period.
