The Relevance of Free of Charge Digital Platforms for Austrian Companies

This Research Brief examines for the first time the relevance and use of free of charge digital platforms in Austrian companies based on the WIFO enterprise survey "Digital Platforms 2021-2022". It is shown that more than half of the companies use digital platforms free of charge for communication, information, and advertising. About one third of the companies use their most important platform free of charge, which is particularly common among service companies (excluding accommodation and food service activities). For the first time, the satisfaction of businesses with these platforms is also examined. Companies are generally satisfied with free digital platforms, although satisfaction is lower compared to paid platforms.
