Supply Chain Intelligence Institute Austria (ASCII)
The overlapping crises of recent years have highlighted weaknesses and challenges in global, European and Austrian production and logistics networks. To understand these highly complex processes, an interdisciplinary approach is required. WIFO has therefore founded the Supply Chain Intelligence Institute Austria (ASCII) together with the Complexity Science Hub (CSH), the Logistikum (logistics centre) of the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences and the Verein Netzwerk Logistik (VNL).
At the ASCII, internationally experienced scientists develop data-based, analytical tools using methods from mathematics, data and network science, international economics, management science, supply chains and logistics. The ASCII strives to play a leading scientific role in Europe in the field of supply chain and resilience research. This claim is underpinned by its first academic publications. The association is a non-profit organisation and its findings are made available to the general public on an ongoing basis.
The research joint venture is dedicated to producing analyses to better manage future challenges in connection with value creation networks, strategic dependencies and to ensuring production and supply security. The research team develops and operates a comprehensive data system for supply chains and production networks. This database can be used to simulate scenarios and develop strategies for a sustainable and resilient economy. The aim is to provide decision-makers in politics, public administration and the private sector with a solid, evidence-based basis for decision-making in order to achieve the Austrian and European goals of secure value creation and CO2 neutrality.
