Brief Analysis of Current Rent Regulation in Austria

WIFO Research Brief Examines Bill Currently Under Review
In a recently published WIFO Research Brief, Michael Klien and Peter Reschenhofer analyse the 5th Rent Law Inflation Relief Act (5. MILG), currently under review, from an economic perspective.

The focus is on three core measures: capping indexation, increasing the minimum fixed-term duration, and a rent brake for rents subject to the "Mietrechtsgesetz (MRG)". Finally, a preliminary assessment of the effects on the residential property market is provided, along with conclusions for some of the further regulatory plans announced in the government programme and rent regulation as a whole.
