Austria 2025 – Distribution of Working Hours in Austria. Analysis and Options from the Workers' Point of View
An analysis of working hours for the dependently employed in Austria shows a high gender time gap: men put in an average of 39.8 hours per week; at 31.6 hours women's gainful working week is shorter by one fifth. Closing this gap would meet individual wishes as much as social goals. The study found that women would like to work a few hours more in gainful employment, while men would prefer to cut down on their working hours. Approaches to reduce the gender gap in working hours per working life are manifold, ranging from changing the framework conditions to the introduction of new options for work schedules
