Analysis of the Macroeconomic Effects of Different Scenarios Based on Long-term Gas Supply Contracts

The aim of the project was to analyse the macroeconomic effects of different scenarios based on Austria's long-term gas supply contracts with Russia. The macroeconomic effects of the different scenarios were modelled using the WIFO-ADAGIO (A DynAmic Global Input Output Model) model and include value added and employment effects at the sectoral level as well as the effects on the development of gross domestic product. The most important conclusion of the study is undoubtedly that Austria's security of supply can best be ensured by a well-diversified procurement strategy that does not allow dependence on individual suppliers to develop in the first place. In this way, a resilient procurement system can effectively absorb any disruptions on the supplier side.
