Development of Scenarios for a Fair Heat Transition

Stakeholder Workshop of the Research Project "Fair-Heat: A Comprehensive Analysis of Options for a Fair Heat Transition in Austria"
On 23 January 2026, an online stakeholder workshop was held as part of the Fair-Heat project to discuss scenario assumptions for modelling Austria's heat transition.

The interactive workshop explored various aspects that should be explored in the scenarios, with a focus on four topics. Policy instruments for decarbonising the (residential) building stock followed by future relevance of different heating technologies and the associated infrastructure, potential support measures for vulnerable households and finally financing options for the heating transition. The input and feedback from stakeholders will form the basis for defining the scenarios for the heating transition, which will be analysed in the model simulations.

The Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO), the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and e-think energy research are working on the Fair-Heat project to analyse options for a fair heat transition in Austria. The project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and carried out as part of the ACRP programme.
