"Der Freihandel hat fertig"
Register now for the book presentation by Gabriel Felbermayr and Martin Braml on 11 October
In their book "Der Freihandel hat fertig", WIFO-Director Gabriel Felbermayr and foreign trade expert Martin Braml show surprising correlations, uncover misconceptions and reveal ways in which our prosperity can be maintained and expanded despite adverse circumstances. The book will be presented by the authors on 11 October 2024 at 6 pm at the Vienna School of International Studies (Favoritenstraße 15a, 1040 Vienna).
While the pandemic has painfully demonstrated our dependencies on foreign trade and Putin is using energy exports as a weapon, Trump and co are attacking the very global trade rules that have made the world richer than ever before. China and the USA are decoupling, globalization is to be rolled back. The EU no longer wants free trade agreements, but sanctions against rogue states, supply chain laws and climate protectionism to save the world. Free trade is increasingly giving way to geopolitical and ecological considerations. Germany, Austria and Switzerland are dominated by SMEs and are trade-oriented - their prosperity is at stake.
