Isabel Pham Awarded the Marietta Blau Grant

WIFO Economist Writes her Doctoral Thesis in Berkeley, Paris and Vienna
Isabel Pham has been an economist in the Research Group "Industrial, Innovation and International Economics" since 2022 and is currently a PhD student at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. From autumn 2026, she will receive the Marietta Blau Scholarship from the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research (BMFWF) and will therefore write her doctoral thesis, "Essays in Transportation and Trade", at the Paris School of Economics and the University of California, Berkeley.

Pham's research focuses primarily on transport economics, industrial organisation and international economics. Prior to joining WIFO, she held positions at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Vienna, the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna and the OECD in Paris. Isabel Pham holds degrees in political science, economics and econometrics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Vienna and the Toulouse School of Economics.

The Marietta Blau Scholarship offers financial support for six- to twelve-month study periods abroad for doctoral or PhD students of Austrian universities. It aims to enhance the quality of dissertations through relevant international engagement and is specifically designed to support highly qualified early-career researchers.
