Unpaid Overtime in Austria
In 2012, 5.6 percent of the Austrian employees supplied 68 million unpaid overtime hours. 1.2 percent of the volume of work remained unpaid in Austria. Two thirds of the unpaid overtime hours were supplied by salaried workers, roughly a fifth by public servants and one eighth by blue-collar workers. Unpaid overtime hours are done mainly by occupational groups with a high qualification level. Men deliver unpaid overtime hours more often than women, but the overtime hours of women are more likely to remain unpaid. Full-time workers are more likely to carry out unpaid overtime hours than part-time workers. Unpaid overtime has risen between 2005 and 2009 – mainly due to the economic crisis, but maybe also due to a change in the questioning in the census. The developments since 2009 are stable.
