The latest Annual Report of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research was published on 10 March 2025 and is now also available in digital form. "The multiple crises have made us poorer. The COVID-19 pandemic, the energy price shock and record inflation – the economic costs and budgetary impact of various rescue measures are now becoming ever clearer", said WIFO Director Gabriel Felbermayr.
WIFO's task now more than ever is to make scientific contributions to the economic policy debate with objective analyses and policy proposals. "We did this again in 2024. Under the title 'In the service of society', this report focuses on the added public value of WIFO", says Felbermayr.
"In 2024, WIFO once again succeeded in realising its high strategic aspirations and building a reliable bridge between basic academic research and practical political application through excellent research, in-depth economic policy advice and clear communication", stated the Institute's Presidium, consisting of Harald Mahrer, Renate Anderl and Ingrid Kubin, in a joint foreword.
