Recession Hit Austria's Regions Differently

According to the WIFO Flash Estimate, gross value added shrank in all federal states in the second year of the recession. This was due to a decline in value added in almost all sectors, which was most pronounced in manufacturing – and here in Carinthia, Upper Austria and Lower Austria when measured in terms of the production value sold. In contrast to the previous year, the accommodation and food service industry no longer provided any positive impetus in 2024 either (in real terms). An increase in employment in the public sector supported the development of active employment, which stagnated compared to the previous year (+0.2 percent).
