Knowledge Production and Utilisation in Austria in an International Comparison

Austria has increased monetary resources for knowledge production and utilisation in recent decades to a level above that of the leading innovation countries in the EU, with the exception of universities. However, performance indicators, such as for publications, patents and innovation-intensive start-ups, show clear catch-up potential, especially in comparison with leading countries worldwide. The continuing performance problems as well as new challenges for RTI policy such as climate change and technological sovereignty recommend a micro-data-based evaluation of the RTI system.
