Early Monitoring of the Sustainable and Inclusive Development Goals in Austria
With its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations' 2030 Agenda strives for a global sustainable development encompassing economic, ecological and social aspects. Eurostat measures and evaluates achievements towards these goals on the basis of indicators in an annual monitoring process. Based on the current Eurostat report, this Research Brief examines the development of SDG 8 for Austria using the WIFO Economic Outlook of June 2022 and newly developed nowcasting models. This article provides an early assessment of target achievement for the year 2022. As a result of the recovery from the COVID-19-related slump, the majority of the economic indicators within SDG 8 are developing towards target achievement. Progress can also be expected towards a lower raw material consumption. The gender gap in inactivity due to family care responsibilities, however, will diverge from target in 2022.
