COVID-19 Crisis Stops Tourism from Soaring
In 2019, tourism in Austria recorded new records with 46.2 million arrivals (+3.0 percent), 152.7 million overnight stays (+1.9 percent) and 30.0 billion € in nominal revenues (+6.7 percent, +4.8 percent at current prices). As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, demand in 2020 is expected to fall by 35 to 40 percent on average according to current estimates, with city tourism expected to suffer much more than other regions.
