Poverty Index
The "poverty index" quantitatively maps the living conditions on a small-scale level in the 2,122 communities in Austria for the period 2010 to 2017 by combining the factors affecting poverty and social exclusion such as income, employment intensity, age and qualifications in an index number. From this aggregate, conclusions can be drawn about the living conditions at community level in Austria. Not only the different living conditions between urban and rural regions or densely and thinly-populated areas are shown, but also insight into the heterogeneity within the rural regions is offered, as a look at the peripheral rural regions on the one hand and the rural areas close to a city on the other hand shows.
