Cumulative Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Selected Sectors in Austria

A comprehensive transformation towards a climate-neutral economy and lifestyle is essential to achieve climate targets. A broad understanding of cumulative emissions along value chains is needed as a basis for this transformation. This ensures that emission reduction measures in individual industries and sectors are compatible with the climate targets in the overall context, taking into account the available potential for a renewable electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply and the remaining greenhouse gas budget. The study estimates the cumulative greenhouse gas emissions of selected Austrian product groups along their value chains. In doing so, both the embedded emissions in Austria and abroad and the greenhouse gas emissions directly incurred during production were taken into account, whereby a distinction was made between energy-related and process-related emissions.
