The soon-to-be 27 member countries of the European Union celebrate the signing of the "Roman Treaties" 60 years ago. After being a member of the European Community for 44 years, the UK handed over its notice to leave. The British government calls for a "hard Brexit", i.e. leaving all EU bodies and the internal market. Donald Trump, the new US president, starts to put his protectionist election promises into practice by serving notice on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement. – The Austrian federal government is presenting a new working programme for 2017-18 together with a time schedule. One of the first specific measures is an employment bonus scheme funded at 2 billion €, which subsidises the non-wage labour costs when additional workers drawn from the Austrian labour market are being employed.
