New Social Risks in Austria: A Comparison With Europe
In the past decades, affluence did not spread equally to all population groups. Using a number of indicators, the report pinpoints the socioeconomic groups that are most at risk of suffering unemployment, joblessness, poverty and marginalisation. The poverty risk of children and youths in Europe shows a clear north-south incline over their life. In order to improve their chances at the transition from school to the labour market it is necessary to improve the primary training system so as to enable them to integrate in the labour market. At the transition from work to retirement, more and more older people are affected by inadequate labour market integration which leads to differences in the social welfare situation of the retired generation in the European countries.
