Be-In-Tech – Employment and "Industry 4.0". Technological Change and the Future of Labour Market

The study will examine the effects of the trend to "Industrie 4.0" for the Austrian labour market, in particular for the number of jobs, qualification requirements and job profiles. We focus on the automotive, machinery, and the wood products sectors and on producer-related services (including ICT and logistics). The analysis starts with a review of recent studies for the USA, Europe and Germany. In a second step we analyse labour market trends in Austria over the last 20 years including changes in the occupational and qualification structure. These two analytical steps lay the ground for the development of hypotheses on job destruction, job creation and job enrichment that will lead the following research.
