Long-term Persepctives of Public Households in Austria. Projection up to 2050

Future demographic shifts, in particular the increasing share of old people, will have significant impacts on the public budget, since the share of dependent people rises, while the share of the working population declines. The study investigates the impact of demographic change and of other long-term trends in pensions, health care, education, long-term care, family support and unemployment on public budgets, taking into account new and existing legal regulations on these areas. The basic assumptions are varied by running several scenarios, so that lang-term upward and downward risks are revealed.
