WIFO Mourns Gerhard Thury
Pioneer for Model Infrastructure of the Institute
Gerhard Thury was employed as an economist at WIFO from 1966 to 1995 and played a major role in developing the institute's model infrastructure. He died on 15 November 2020 at the age of 82 after a long illness.
The WIFO management expressed its deepest condolences to all his family members and acknowledged Thury's key role in co-founding the quantitative analysis of macroeconomics at the institute: "His work shaped the first generation of macroeconomic models and the applications of statistical time series analysis. These activities have also gained recognition beyond Austria's borders, which has been underlined by an intensive exchange with international research institutes."
In consideration of the measures taken to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, Gerhard Thury is led to his last resting place in his immediate family circle at the cemetery in Neusiedl am See.
