Refugees from Ukraine
WIFO Research Brief: Expected Development and Challenges
On the basis of known results and available studies by WIFO on previous waves of immigration and refugees, Julia Bock-Schappelwein and Peter Huber discuss the further development of refugee movements from Ukraine to Austria and the resulting challenges.
Although Austria should not be the primary destination of this refugee movement, it is to be expected that the number of refugees from Ukraine will continue to increase significantly in the coming weeks in view of the extent of the refugee numbers to date. The central challenge that arises from this is to ensure the necessary conditions for the care of the refugees in the fields of housing, school, health and work.
