This study evaluates whether the EU-level state aid rules applicable to RDI that entered into force in 2014 have a detrimental impact on RDI activities in a manner or to a degree which is disproportionate to the objective of these rules, i.e., ensuring that the negative effects of the public support in terms of distortions of competition and impact on trade between member countries are limited and outweighed by the positive effect in terms of contribution to the common EU objective of promoting RDI activities within the EU. WIFO takes the role as a national expert for Austria.
