Building Permits for New Housing Units in Austria

The decline in building permits will continue in 2022. The WIFO forecast expects a decline in building permits of around 11 percent this year – with multi-storey construction (–12.8 percent) declining more sharply than the segment of detached and semi-detached houses (–9.1 percent). The decline will then continue in 2023, but only by just under 4 percent, with both segments likely to be affected to roughly the same extent. The forecast for 2023 is thus already below 50,000 units.
