Knowledge Production and Utilisation in Austria in an International Comparison

In recent decades, Austria has increased its monetary resources for knowledge production and utilisation to a level above the leading innovation countries of the EU. However, performance indicators for publications, patents and innovation-intensive start-ups, for example, still point to significant catch-up potential, particularly in comparison with leading global countries. Existing excellent research institutions or innovation-intensive companies (still) lack the size to be visible in Austria's overall performance.
