Productivity of Austrian Companies from 2008 to 2018
In cooperation with the OECD's "Multiprod 2.0" project and Statistics Austria, this paper summarises the main findings of a study of the development of a detailed analysis of the development of labour and multifactor productivity in Austrian companies. It is based on micro-aggregated data for the period from 2008 to 2018, which confirm both a large heterogeneity between individual companies and numerous systematic differences, determinants and effects. Examples are economies of scale in production, a higher average productivity growth of young companies or the great importance of the reallocation of shares of production in favour of companies with high productivity. This reallocation also contributes to the fact that companies at the top of the productivity distribution create by far the most new jobs.
