Employment Careers After Episodes of Unemployment in Lower Austria

Key findings of a recent study commissioned by AMS Niederösterreich

The study conducted by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) on behalf of the Public Employment Service of Lower Austria (AMS Niederösterreich) examines the employment careers of individuals who were registered as unemployed at a Lower Austrian AMS office for at least one day in the years 2001, 2007, 2013 or 2019. Their subsequent employment careers are traced over a period of up to 23 years following the end of the respective unemployment episode. This provides a comprehensive overview of average career patterns by key characteristics of AMS clients including the type of unemployment. In addition, the study analyses how sociodemographic factors (age, gender, education, nationality, health restrictions), the type of unemployment, and the use of AMS support measures are related to the likelihood of exiting unemployment.
