Employment Effects of the Major Road Network in Austria
An improved accessibility due to extensions of the road infrastructure results in a larger economic range of people and businesses. The potential productivity effects of expansions in the road infrastructure might directly translate into positive employment effects. The aim of the project is an analysis of the employment structure along the major road network in Austria. Using small-scale employment data, the project empirically estimates employment effects due to expansions of the road network. The research project moreover deals with potential employment effects due to the planned S1 extension (Schwechat–Süßenbrunn), the S1 Spange Seestadt, as well as the S8 Marchfeld Schnellstraße (S1/S8 Gänserndorf–Obersiebenbrunn) shedding some light on the expected employment impacts in the regions under scrutiny.
