Economic Effects of Extending the Network of Fibre Optic Lines in Austria
Hitherto increases in productivity which were due to broadband innovation are now clearly starting to stagnate. As compared internationally the rather average broadband coverage in Austria suggests that there is the potential for growth. In particular fibre optic lines are rare. These allow data to be transferred at even higher speeds and therefore can really be seen as a current technological advancement. Against this background this study discusses what economic action is needed to increase the availability of broadband networks. This should in turn increase the contribution to growth by ICT. Economic considerations such as the implementation of an orchestrated strategy in Austria conclude the study.
