R&D Goals 2020. Update 2018
As part of the "Europe 2020" strategy, the Austrian Federal Government has set research quota targets: The research and development quota is to be increased to 3.76 percent of GDP by 2020, with the public sector accounting for one third of funding. In addition, the basic research ratio is to be raised to 0.94 percent of GDP. This study calculates an ideal financing and expenditure path that would enable these targets to be achieved by 2020. The financing required to achieve the targets is compared with the past and future development of the actual R&D financing as determined by the Federal budget. The comparison reveals a financing gap for achieving the research quota targets.
