Evaluation of the Medium-term Availability of Active Substances for Plant Protection Products
This project examines the availability of active substances for plant protection in Austria. First, the stock of active substances approved in Austria is examined to determine which ones will remain approved in the coming decade and which ones will lose their approval. From a crop production perspective, the project will then examine which alternative methods of plant protection are available, how high their costs are in comparison to the active substances, and what consequences for crop production (changes in yield and costs) can be expected. The crop production and economic assessments form the basis for an economic evaluation. A model representing the Austrian economy is used to examine the expected changes (sales in the plant protection sector, sales of alternative inputs, changes in agricultural production). The results of the economic analysis are the expected effects on employment and value added
