Visualisations of the Study: Simulation of Pension System Changes
The gender pension gap, the difference between men's and women's pensions, is 40.1 percent in Austria in 2024. The reasons for women's disadvantaged position are the structures they are confronted with in working life: low incomes due to gender specific educational paths, periods of child-rearing and care and the associated part-time phases, periods of unemployment, etc. In a study conducted by WIFO "Simulation of Pension System Changes on the Amount of Old-age Income and the Gender Pension Gap in Austria", simulations were carried out on theoretical changes in pension law and on the level of retirement income and the gender pension gap. In addition, a pension fairness calculator was developed that can graphically represent both the distribution of pension income and the effect of the simulated reforms.
