WIFO Mourns the Loss of Honorary Member Erich W. Streissler
"Obituaries often tend to exaggerate, but there is no denying that it was Streissler who, together with Kurt Rothschild and Josef Steindl, brought Austria up to international academic standards. He was a researcher, teacher, economic policymaker and devil's advocate. Given the range of his research, he was rightly described as a polymath", said Gunter Tichy in a detailed obituary for the National Economic Association (NOeG).
"Erich W. Streissler influenced generations of economists with his analytical approach to economics and his extraordinary passion for scientific analysis and social discourse. As Vice-President of WIFO, he was deeply committed to strengthening the link between academic research and economic policy practice. His inspiring nature will remain in all our memories", said WIFO Deputy Director Christine Mayrhuber, who expressed her deepest condolences to all his relatives.
