NZZ: WIFO Director on 12th Place in the Ranking
Who are the most influential economists in Germany? WIFO Director Gabriel Felbermayr lands in 12th place in the Media Tenor ranking. In addition to media presence, the overall assessment of the Germany ranking measures scientific impetus, political advice and resonance in social networks.

First place goes to Clemens Fuest. He is followed by Daron Acemoglu, Marcel Fratzscher, Veronika Grimm, Monika Schnitzer, Ulrike Malmendier, Lars Feld, Jens Suedekum, Moritz Schularick, Paul Krugman, Achim Wambach, Gabriel Felbermayr, Hans-Werner Sinn, Andreas Peichl and Thiess Büttner.

Gabriel Felbermayr has been Director of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) and Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business since 2021. Prior to that, he headed the ifo Centre for International Economics at the University of Munich (2010 to 2019) and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (2019 to 2021).

Felbermayr holds various roles and positions. The most important are: Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, Chairman of the Statistics Council of Statistics Austria, Founding President of the "Austria Suplly Chain Intelleigence Institute" (ASCII).

The ranking was compiled by the Swiss institute Media Tenor for the New Social Market Economy Initiative. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) published the ranking exclusively on 20 November 2024.
