Euroconstruct

WIFO is the Austrian partner of Euroconstruct, an independent network of leading research and consulting institutes from 19 European countries. Twice a year, the network produces comparable medium-term construction forecasts and presents its results at the biannual Euroconstruct conferences.

Background and Objectives

Euroconstruct is an independent network for the analysis and forecasting of the European construction industry, founded in 1975 by specialised research and consulting institutes. The network's objective is to provide current, reliable and cross-country comparable forecasts for European construction markets. Euroconstruct's strength lies in the local expertise of its members: specialised consulting and non-profit research institutes from now 19 European countries, which prepare their national construction industry data according to a uniform methodology. On this basis, a harmonised pan-European dataset is created that enables medium-term construction forecasts and is updated twice a year. WIFO represents Austria in this network and provides the analyses and forecasts for the Austrian construction market.

Reports and Conferences

At the centre of the network's activities are the Euroconstruct conferences, held twice a year – in early summer and in winter – at changing European locations, each organised by the national partner institute. The events focus on cyclical developments in the construction industry as well as other topics of direct relevance to the construction sector, while also providing a platform for professional exchange. The results are published in two English-language conference reports: the Country Report contains the market analyses for the individual member countries, while the Summary Report summarises developments by construction sector and provides corresponding country overviews. In addition, the partner institutes carry out joint research projects (for example, on behalf of the EU Commission or industry associations) and maintain ongoing exchange on substantive matters.

Next event

The 102nd EUROCONSTRUCT Conference takes place on 19 & 20 November 2026 in Vienna, Austria, hosted by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO). Held under the theme "Understanding What Moves the Market," the conference presents the Winter 2026 update of European construction market forecasts to 2029, alongside macroeconomic projections covering all 19 member markets.
The programme opens on 19 November with a pre-conference networking evening for participants, speakers and EUROCONSTRUCT members. The main conference day on 20 November is held at the historic House of Industry on Schwarzenbergplatz and combines the network's standardised forecasts with expert lectures across three focus areas: housing (including the European Affordable Housing Plan and Austria's limited-profit housing model), non-residential construction (cost pressures and the future of office construction), and civil engineering (notably the outlook once NGEU funding phases out). Keynote sessions place these forecasts in a broader macroeconomic and global trade context.
