Regional Industrial Recovery Amid Continued Weakness in the Construction Sector

Regional economic developments in Austria's federal states were shaped by two opposing forces in the first quarter of 2026. Manufacturing continued its recovery, supporting above all the industrially oriented provinces. At the same time, construction output contracted sharply in almost all federal states. Tourism expanded only modestly. Labour market developments diverged widely across regions.
