Tourism expenditure by domestic and foreign guests in Austria amounted to an estimated 41.5 billion € in 2025, based on a Tourism Satellite Account (+5.8 percent compared to 2024). This generated nominal direct and indirect value-added effects of 33.1 billion € (+5.4 percent), contributing 6.5 percent to the nominal gross domestic product. Tourism-related employment stood at around 292,000 full-time equivalents (FTEs) in 2024, accounting for 7.1 percent of all employed persons on a full-time basis. The number of overnight stays rose to 157.3 million in 2025 (+1.9 percent compared to 2024), clearly surpassing the pre-crisis level of 2019 (+3.0 percent). Arrivals also reached a new record high of 48.2 million (+3.1 percent compared to 2024; +4.3 percent compared to 2019). The nominal travel balance (exports minus imports, including international passenger transport) improved to nearly +10.7 billion € (+11.4 percent) and was 1.8 percent above the previous year even in price-adjusted terms. Austria thus ranked 5th out of 42 destinations in nominal per-capita receipts from international travel at 2,744 €.
