WIFO-Investitionsbefragung (Investment Survey) of Autumn 2025

According to the results of the WIFO Investment Survey, domestic investment demand declined again in 2025. The industry picture suggests a broad downturn. Only companies in financial and insurance activities reported investment growth in 2025. Investment momentum is likely to remain weak in 2026, with a gradual bottoming out emerging. This is being driven by companies in the manufacturing sector and large enterprises. Small and medium-sized enterprises are planning to cut investment. The majority of companies in administrative and support service activities and professional, scientific and technical activities plan to restrict their investments in 2026. Investment activity is primarily driven by technological developments. Investments are most often used to replace outdated plant or equipment. Capacity expansions continue to play only a minor role.
