Retail Business Cycle Report

Once a quarter, the Retail Business Cycle Report compiles key economic information for the retail trade and trade as a whole. Ongoing economic monitoring and reporting is highly relevant to provide retailers and the interested public with up-to-date data and analyses. The current report shows that the Austrian economy showed initial signs of recovery in the first quarter of 2025, driven primarily by industry. The development of turnover in retail trade was moderately positive in February and March. However, the survey results have deteriorated again since the beginning of the year, both in terms of the current situation and business expectations. The mood among domestic consumers also deteriorated significantly in April. Against this backdrop, the weak consumer momentum is likely to continue in 2025.
