Employment Careers After Episodes of Unemployment in Lower Austria

This study analyses the employment careers of clients of the Public Employment Service Lower Austria (AMS) after they have left unemployment. As part of this study, all persons who were registered as unemployed for at least one day at an AMS office in Lower Austria in 2001, 2007, 2013 or 2019 are considered and analysed using descriptive methods to determine how their employment careers develop up to 23 years after the end of their unemployment episodes. For this purpose, different types of unemployed persons are defined, for which the careers are analysed separately. The study thus provides a comprehensive overview of average career trajectories according to various characteristics of AMS clients. In a further step, the relationship between various sociodemographic characteristics, in particular age, gender, education, nationality and health restrictions, duration of unemployment in the last episode as well as the entire employment career and AMS support during the unemployment phase and subsequent employment careers is analysed.
