The economic and social realities and opportunities of women and men in Austria differ, as shown by six equality dimensions. Gender-specific educational trajectories and the unequal distribution of paid and unpaid work lead to a low level of financial independence for women over the course of their lives. In addition to these three dimensions, the lack of representation and participation of women in politics, business and the media, the effects of the living environment on the state of health and the exposure to violence are also presented.
