Regional Economy. 1st Quarter 2016
In the beginning of 2016 the Austrian economy continued its upwards trend. However, a more vigorous recovery failed to appear, due to absent stimuli from foreign trade. The regional development was rather heterogeneous also within greater regions as well as regions comparable in structure. Nevertheless a west-south-east divide in growth was still visible, though it seems that the eastern regions made up leeway on the western parts of the country. Benefitting manufacturing and construction growth as well as a robust economic rebound in the retail sector were remaining advantages in western Austria.
