Tourism Analysis November 2021 to February 2022
Ukraine War Dampens Expectations for 2022
After the most recent COVID-19-related lockdown from mid-November to mid-December 2021, the Austrian tourism industry rebounded surprisingly quickly. This being said, compared to the pre-crisis period 2018-19, demand trailed roughly a third measured in overnight stays and by a quarter in terms of nominal tourism exports from November 2021 to February 2022. The percentage gap to the pre-crisis level was still larger in foreign demand compared to domestic tourism (overnight stays –34.9 percent to –27.5 percent).
